Kateřina Smolíková belongs to the youngest generation of the authors of the graduates of the prof. Vladimír Kopecký and Rony Plesl glass atelier in the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design. She belongs to the group of young artists who, by their unconventional approach, transform the view of the use of glass material in the free artistic creation. Kateřina endorses this generation by repeated experimenting, although she does not cease to respect glass as a beautiful material. She sees it as material with almost indefinite pontentiality of artistic concept. She is frequently inspired by nature and transforms its motives to glass – and adapts glass to nature. She does this with feminine poetics without fearing monumentalism and fierce. She brings us by glass to a flowering meadow, to the branches of bushes and trees with abundant berries, under the sea level, back to the stream of time, to the countryside of French Bretagne, maybe to the Universe...
By its nature, glass is close to nature and Kateřina Smolíková understands this conection very well. At the same time she is far fro descriptive style that could disturb her work. She is also good at design, both clear and wittingly coloured. I have observed her work since the beginning of her studies and I appreciate to see the improvement and growth in her work.
